The Unofficial
I-26 Construction
Madison County
North Carolina

This photograph is looking west. US 23 runs parallel to the project below (to the east) the project, and Laurel Creek Road crosses the project on the right. The Bear Branch Road interchange is on the left, with Bear Branch Road passing through the project and turning left. Fox Road can be seen leaving Bear Branch Road on the right side of the photo. If you look carefully you can see where Bear Branch Road will be relocated; the relocated portion of Bear Branch is adjacent to this section. The 220' high Laurel Creek Bridge will cross the large gap on the right side of the picture. Not much has been graded on the interchange yet; the big cut between Bear Branch Road and Laurel Creek Road was just excavated enough to allow the bridge contractor to get to the south end of the bridge. You can also see where US 23 used to be and its new location. Photo taken in November 1998 by the Photogrammetry Unit.
