One of Wright Brothers' drill rigs drilling a shaft for one of the Laurel Creek Bridge foundations. The cloud rising from the hole is actually a mixture of water (for cooling the drill bit) and dust from the hole itself. The foundation for each pier is a group of drilled shafts on which the footing itself rests upon. The pier will then be constructed on top of the footing. The tallest piers will be nearly 220' high. Photo taken in November 1998.
