The valley running down from the Tennessee border that project A-10D stays within is very narrow, restricting the chance for many scenic views from the road. Near the south end of the project, however, the valley opens up and the view south will allow the motorist to see Buckner Gap from about two miles away. The interstate will run up to Buckner Gap along the base of the ridge in the center of the photo, and the Bear Branch Road interchange will be visible just to the right of the material in the foreground. Winter drivers in this area will need to be careful; the north facing slopes will be slow to melt off any snow that falls upon them as shown in this picture, taken in February 1999.
