Higgins Branch Road structures under construction. Two separate
bridges are being constructed here, on two different alignments. Ahead
of the bridges the median tapers down to only 22' in width, while on the
photographer's side of the bridges the median is a standard 46' width.
Higgins Branch Road will also funnel two other roads underneath I-26; these
roads are SR 1609 leading into Mars Hill and Jarvis Road, which is a dead
end road serving a mountain valley. Relocating these two roads to Higgins
Branch Road eliminated two expensive structure locations; the crossing
at Jarvis Road would have been over 90' in height.
