Panoramic shot of the I-26 construction south of Buckner Gap. The cut in the center of the photo is the smallest of the "major" cuts along the project; it is approximately 220' deep (about the size of the Beaucatcher Mountain cut on I-240 in Asheville, NC. The cleared open area to the right of the photo is the future site of a welcome center for travelers coming into North Carolina from Tennessee. Down where the smoke is located (lower right corner) will be a large rock buttress designed to support the interstate on substandard soil conditions. Faintly visible in the background are the ridges of the Black Mountains north and east of Asheville, NC.
