A closeup view of Area #8 on A-10D. The rock on this project was not as strong as on A-10C, so the slopes in the big cuts could not be as steep. The slopes here are not presplit and closely follow normal soil slopes, even in the rock at the bottom of the cut. The steepest cuts on A-10D are only 1:1, compared to slopes of 0.5:1 on A-10D. One of the Demag shovels is in the middle of the cut for an idea of how deep this excavation is. Photo taken October 1999.
