I-26 Construction
Madison County
North Carolina

A-10D is about half the size of its sister project to the south (A-10C), but the amount of material to be moved is still formidable at around 9 million cubic yards. Since the haul distances are not as long and the volumes are less, gigantic earthmoving machines aren't needed, just big ones. This is Wright Brothers' Demag shovel, used to move large volumes of material from the big cuts. It can move 13.5 cubic yards at a time with its shovel, compared to 26 cubic yards for the one on A-10C, but the machine is still quite large. Taken October 1999.
