The Unofficial
I-26 Construction
Madison County
North Carolina

This is the left hand side of the cut through Buckner Gap, known as Area #3. The contractor has cut what looks like six lifts through the rock, which would equal about 120' on a 1:1 slope in this photo. The rock slope at Buckner Gap will eventually be about 240' high, so the contractor is halfway there. The black square in the lower left corner is one of the big 150 ton trucks coming for another load of rock. High on the rock slope are the words "GEOLOGY ROCKS" spraypainted on the cut slope. Photo taken in November 1999.
