The Unofficial
I-26 Construction
Madison County
North Carolina

The bridges crossing Higgins Branch Road only have a 15' clearance since they aren't passing over a major route, but this is high enough for nearly anything. The contractor attempted to move a construction vehicle under the bridge a few weeks ago, and even though there were spotters to prevent any problems, it got stuck. In freeing the vehicle, this chunk of concrete was chipped off the western most beam on the west bridge, exposing the rebar. I don't know if the beam is going to be replaced or if an inplace fix can be made to seal the chip, but the contractor may be responsible for whatever is done. Photo taken in November 1999.
