Area #7 as seen from US 23 across from Laurel Creek Road. This cut is the deepest of any cut on either project, at over 600' from top to the final grade. It's not a full cut, but as seen in this picture, only slices through one side of this mountain. The slope had to be so flat due to the lack of rock in the cut, and a trout stream (Little Laurel Creek) at the base of the mountain prevented us from moving the design out of the cut completely. A large rock buttress will run from the grade down to the river at the bottom to keep the road out of the water. Taken in November 1999.
