With the haul road shifted onto the top of the rock embankment, the route of the interstate gets more clearly defined. Here we're looking at Area #2 from Buckner Gap, and you can see one of the big trucks about to enter the cut at Area #2. The interstate will swing a little to the left of the haul road and curve through Buckner Gap, but both cuts still have a lot of excavating to go before reaching their final elevation. The trees in the background are covered in ice from a winter storm a few days before I took this picture. Taken in January 2000.
