The Unofficial
I-26 Construction
Madison County
North Carolina

This aerial photo was taken in 1999 by Gilbert Southern. You are looking right at the very end of A-10C, known as Area #5. This cut is large enough to provide all the material to build the Bear Branch interchange, all the rest of the fill north of Buckner Gap, plus have some left over to build embankments south of there. Since big trucks could not cross Buckner Gap until recently, this cut hasn't been worked on very much other than to remove enough material to get to the south end of the Laurel Creek Bridge. Two ramps still have to be cut through this site, as well as a portion of Bear Branch Road.
