The Unofficial
I-26 Construction
Madison County
North Carolina

This is the rock fence and planter that is on the left side of the southernmost cut on A-10C. In order to protect motorists from falling rock, several design features were used. The rock slopes were carefully designed to prevent large scale slope failures. A 30' wide ditch with 24" of riprap in it is between the rock slope and the fence to catch and absorb the impact of any rocks that do fall. Finally, the fence and barrier design is placed adjacent to the shoulder to catch any rocks that make it that far. Over 4000' of rock fence is on A-10C. Photo taken in October 2000.
