The Unofficial
I-26 Construction
Madison County
North Carolina

One of the sites along A-10C where large amounts of undercut has to be removed before any highway fill construction can begin. Once the material is removed, rock blasted from cuts on the project will be brought in and used to fill in the void, and then the fill construction can begin. At this site the undercut is over 30' thick. The rock will come from the gray open area at the extreme top of the photograph, about a mile away. The vehicles in the picture include an articulated dump truck carrying material out of the site, a bulldozer building a haul road, and a tractor scraping loose and/or wet material off of a haul road.
