This is what motorists heading west on I-26 will eventually see as they cross the Laurel Creek Bridge. Not the beams, of course, but the big cut north of the bridge. The beams are 96" steel plate beams brought in from Columbus, Georgia on semis, and then spliced in midair while the pieces are held up in place by cranes. Photo taken in March 2001.
