Site of the last escape ramp before the US 19 interchange about 2 miles south of here. The dark curved area in the middle of the photo is the location of a 60" structural plate pipe that was placed after the undercut material here was removed. This pipe is unusual because both the inlet and outlet of it are on the east side of the project (to the left of the photo). The project crosses a small curved valley here, requiring this unique drainage system. Also visible in this photo is the benching excavation begun where the fill slope intersects the existing hillside. This is to get a better interface between the disturbed and undisturbed material and helps to prevent landslides in the future. The escape ramp will be just to the right of the fill in the photograph.
