The Unofficial
I-26 Construction
Madison County
North Carolina

In this photograph the construction vehicles are spreading out and compacting undercut material for use in this highway fill. The undercut material is fairly wet and has to be carefully screened for organic material or large rocks. If it's too wet it cannot be used in the fills, and organic material or rocks creates compaction problems. The material is spread out in six inch layers, and an inspector monitors the whole process to make sure no undesirable material is brought into the fill site.
