In order to get enough room to build the interchange at Bear Branch Road, that road had to be relocated. The existing Bear Branch Road can be seen on the right of the photo and below the embankment. The new road is so much higher in order to meet current AASHTO allowable grades for secondary roads; the old one had grades of over 12% and dropped very quickly around the end of the ridge. Photo taken in April 2001.
