Most of the embankments on both A-10D and A-10C have a lot of rock in them. This can create a lot of problems for installing drainage systems or guardrail if the rock is too close to the surface. To keep this from happening, the contractors are required to leave an area in the embankments free of rock for the guardrail. This photo shows the contractor building the trench area for the guardrail. It is 5' wide and 3' deep and will be present wherever the guardrail is required. Photo taken in April 2001.
