A closeup view of the wire mesh installed on one of the rock catchment fences. Made by Brugg, this fence is widely used all over the country. There are two sizes of wire mesh; the smaller one catches the rocks and the larger one acts as the support to break the momentum of the rock. The fence isn't solidly attached to the I-beam; instead, it is looped through connections at the top and bottom and the big loop of cable acts to stretch when a large enough boulder hits the fence, keeping the mesh from bursting or rupturing.
