The light green fill slope conceals a rock buttress built to support the highway in an area where a steeper fill slope was required to stay out of Laurel Creek, a high quality trout stream. Four feet of earth was placed over the rock buttress to cover the rocks, provide a place for vegetation to grow and help blend the construction into the natural scenery immediately around the area. The raw cut above the buttress will eventually reach up to the top of the area where the trees have been removed.
