This is a corrugated steel pipe as seen from a drainage box. The steel pipes on this project all have asphalt coating the lower half of them to help protect them and prevent rusting, extending their life. So much aggregate has washed into the box and down the pipe, however, that most of the asphalt (the black coating on the pipe) has been scoured off. Photo taken in August 2001.
