I-26 Construction

Views of a finished fill slope and a rock buttress. This buttress was built to prevent any further slides like the one last year that sent 500,000 cubic yards of material across the construction site. Once completed it will be covered with earth and seeded to allow vegetation to cover it quickly. The black lines running down the slope are temporary slope drains that collect water off the top of the fill and direct it down to stilling basins like the one in the center of the photo. There much of the silt settles out of the water and is removed by backhoes.
