The Unofficial
I-26 Construction
Madison County
North Carolina

Scene of the end of a large earthen fill near the second truck escape ramp. The interstate will make a sharp horizontal curve at this location to the right, and the escape ramp will run up the cleared hill tangent to the curve. The reason the earth fill stops here is because from here south a large rock buttress is to be built to support the interstate and the fill the rest area will be sited on. Large amounts of colluvium are present in this area; over 30' of colluvium has to be removed before the rock buttress construction can be begun.
