Here's a good example of how quickly the weather conditions change in this area. Not half an hour before this picture was taken, I was south of Buckner Gap (in the center of the photo) and the weather was cloudy overhead. Visibility was about 2 miles at that time. We drove up to the top of the ridge on the right of the photo, and found ourselves in a heavy fog bank with near-zero visibility. This photo shows the cloudbank as it builds up against the mountain ridge and spills through Buckner Gap. This was taken in June 1998 after a heavy rain the night before, and the wind was blowing up from the south toward the higher elevations in Madison County.
