This photo, taken in August 2001 by the Resident Engineer, Stan Hyatt, shows several things of interest. First, notice how foggy it is; even though this is a late afternoon in August, there is so much fog that work lights had to be used. Also, the crane was used to transfer the cement to the spreader (the large steel structure spanning the bridge deck). Due to the weight it cannot get on the newly poured section of bridge, so it sits further back on dryer portions of concrete. The spreader also does not touch the deck, but runs on supports along the bridge rails.
