This is a completely untouched photograph taken at Sams' Gap in February 2003 by myself. The Resident Enginer, Stan Hyatt, and myself were up there for a meeting with some Appalachian Trail officials and visibility was less than 300' in mid-afternoon. This photo is from underneath the bridge over US 23, looking south. It was raining as well, and the fog was this dense along I-26 until we were south of Buckner Gap five miles away. The barricade is only 100' or so from the edge of the bridge, and vehicles running up US 23 just past the barricade were barely visible even with their lights on. The Appalachian Trail will run under the bridge on the right side of this photo.
