Artist's rendering of the proposed Laurel Creek Bridge on I-26
in Madison County, NC. The bridge will be a maximum of 220' above
road, and is on a 5% uphill grade. The bridge construction will
1998 and is scheduled to be completed by 2000. When complete, the bridge
will use over 5 million pounds of steel and 5000 cubic yards of concrete.
The superstructure consists of eight welded steel plate girders with a
depth of 90 inches, and 3.5" flanges on top and bottom.
